Description
General Curator
This hire is for oversight of the entire animal collection, with direct oversight of two section curators and a full-time staff of 10-12 animal keepers. Record-keeping and collection management will be of paramount importance.
The position is physically demanding and active. Although mainly administrative, this is a hands-on working position and at times will require work in the field.
Applicants must have significant hands-on animal experience, including proven management experience. Must be professional, in both demeanor and appearance. No visible tattoos. Non-smoking work environment.
Education and Pre-requisites
• Knowledge of proper animal conformation & body conditions, gestation/incubation periods and nutrition
• Extensive hands-on experience with a broad range of animal species.
• Five years of paid experience in a zoological park or breeding center with at least 2 years with ever-increasing responsibilities or management experience.
• Record-keeping, collection management experience.
• Familiarity with basic medications and vaccination programs.
• BS in the animal related sciences preferred.
Compensation and benefits
