Description

Responsibilities include safely providing daily animal care of a diverse collection in our Zambezi Hippo River Camp (which includes: Nile Hippos, Okapi, Yellow Back Duiker, Mandrills, Nile Crocodiles, Flamingos, Walk through African Aviary, Cape Vultures as well as few different species of crane / storks). Responsibilities include but are not limited to all aspects of daily animal husbandry, exhibit maintenance, and extensive interactions with zoo guests through keeper chats, collection demonstration and VIP tours. This position could require participation in ongoing research efforts.

Position may be hired as an Associate Keeper or a Zookeeper, based on the experience of the applicant.

Education and Pre-requisites

Requires at least two years of experience in exotic animal care. Preference may be given to candidates who possess hippo and avian experience. A minimum of college-level coursework in zoology, biology or a related field is required; a Bachelor’s degree is preferred (or the equivalent combination of education and experience). The successful candidate will have significant demonstrated experience in daily animal care working safely with a variety of exotic wildlife. Experience in behavioral husbandry, including environmental enrichment and operant conditioning are required.

Compensation and benefits

This full-time regular position will be eligible to enroll for insurance benefits after 90 days of continuous employment and will be eligible to earn paid leave.
