Description
POSITION: Bird/Reptile Manager
The Bird/Reptile Manager reports to the General Manager and is responsible to ensure all bird and reptile animals and exhibits are operated to the highest standards as it relates to animal health and facility maintenance.
The Bird/Reptile Manager will provide the leadership and direction for the bird/reptile husbandry team and will oversee all aspects of planning, training, development and management of the bird/reptile facilities. Responsible for the maintenance programs and life support systems to ensure the safety of our guests, staff and animals.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Provides direction to the entire department in terms of husbandry, facility maintenance and safety ensuring best practices are always followed.
Plan, organize and manage the activities of the husbandry staff.
Follow and implement procedures to ensure the health of the animals and bird and reptile shows are up to company standards.
Ensure that a Big Bird is always upfront at admissions
Ensures that all birds are on the bird and reptile stage throughout the day
Responsible for training and management of Birds for Guest Shows
Ensure SOP Compliance
As Directed by the CEO may be responsible for permitting
Organize Set-Up, Monitor Veterinary Visits and Performance
Traits & Skills Required:
Bird training is a plus with experience in building bird shows from the ground up.
Five plus years managing in a zoo or aquarium.
Extensive reptile and bird knowledge, animal handling and ability to teach and lead others based on the Company’s SOP.
Demonstrates a high level of organizational skills, self-motivation, written and verbal communication, effectively sharing information across and between multiple disciplines and reaching audiences with varied technical and organizational knowledge.
Team player who has the ability to deal with customers and give them the best interactive experience.
Ability to manage work flow for the bird/reptile husbandry team and ensure that all shows are on time, exhibits are clean and animals are healthy.
Can demonstrate maturity and level headedness during stressful times.
Education and Pre-requisites
B.S. Zoology or equivalent work experience
