Audubon Aquarium of the Americas is seeking applicants for our Husbandry Internship program.

Internship Overview:

The Audubon Aquarium of the Americas is seeking applicants for our Husbandry Internship Program. Several internship opportunities are available to hard working, self-motivated candidates interested in developing their careers and contributing to the success of the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas. This unpaid internship program offers practical, on-the-job experience for those seeking a career in an Aquarium field. Positions work 24-32 hours a week. No housing is provided.

Position Description:

This position assists the water quality lab staff with monitoring water quality and chemistry parameters for all systems at the Aquarium. Duties include learning and performing water quality analyses using various analytical instrumentation including pH meter, dissolved oxygen meter, and spectrophotometer, among others. Intern will also have an opportunity for independent study/research that he/she can present near the end of the internship. Some topics of interest include various aspects of analytical methodology, consistent water quality parameter monitoring, dissolved gas monitoring, etc. No animal testing is permissible.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
Ability to work in environmental conditions
Ability to stand for long periods of time
Ability to climb stairs, kneel, and squat
General Requirements:

Must have the ability to work independently and be self-motivated.
Prefer candidates that have completed or are pursuing a degree in chemistry, biology, or related fields in life sciences
Must commit to a schedule.
Must pass a background check
May be subject to random drug screening
Must have strong communication skills and be comfortable engaging a diverse audience.
