Description
Reporting to the Curator of Wildlife Care, maintains the health, husbandry and care of the animal collection, zoo exhibit hygiene and maintenance. Assists in training, conducts animal/guest interactions and takes part in animal presentations for zoo visitors. Performs related work as required. Must be able to work as an integral part of the zoo team and communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors and guests.
Responsibilities:
• Diet preparation, feeding, cleaning and basic husbandry
• Record keeping
• Assists in preventative medicine, animal handling, capture, restraint, medication administration. Assist veterinarian with medical procedures and examinations as needed.
• Comply with zoo safety standards.
• Provide support for the zoo education program and volunteer program.
• Interacts with the public and zoo volunteers answering questions and providing support, information, and direction as needed to maintain positive public relations.
• Participate in zoo public relations and educational programs, onsite and offsite.
• Public Speaking
• Training animals for a wide array of behaviors
Education and Pre-requisites
Minimum of 1 year of experience in the care/training of animals.
Ability to multi-task.
Strong work ethic and dedication.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Training experience strongly desired
Bachelor’s Degree preferred

Salary starts at $10/hr
