Description

This position involves working with our current collection of wolves and wolf dogs and any future rescues that align with our mission. Under the general direction of the Curator, this position will be responsible for the daily care, feeding, enrichment, and training of animals in assigned areas. Duties will include, but are not limited to, maintaining cleanliness of animal habitats, assisting with veterinary procedures, implementing training and enrichment plans, and keeping records according to SFWS policies and protocols. The Keeper position will also require guest interaction through scheduled tours, Howl Night overnights, and possible media events. Keepers regularly work as part of an animal care team, as well as independently. Knowledge and understanding of wolf specific behaviors is a plus.
Keepers are required to work in extreme weather conditions typical of Texas and have the physical ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds, operate landscaping equipment (mower, string trimmer, etc.) and simple power tools, work on varied uneven terrain, and climb ladders.

Education and Pre-requisites

Experience preferred with similar species as well as operant conditioning/positive reinforcement training. A Bachelor’s degree, preferably in an animal or science related field, is required. Candidates must be able to work weekends, weekdays, and occasionally holidays.

Compensation and benefits

$12 hourly rate, health insurance, and 20 days paid time off per year.
