POSITION SUMMARY

The Utah’s Hogle Zoo (the Zoo) Animal Registrar has primary accountability for zoo records, inventory, transactions, transport and permits, as well as liaising with relevant government agencies, other zoological institutions, and conservation organizations. Additionally, this position facilitates the assessment and implementation of a coordinated record-keeping system to streamline and automate department-wide record keeping. This position provides assistance to the Animal Care management team with varied administrative tasks and projects.

For over 90 years, Utah’s Hogle Zoo has been a loved and trusted part of the community. Located within Salt Lake City proper, the Zoo is nestled in the foothills of the Wasatch Mountain range at the mouth of Emigration Canyon. Education and Pre-requisites

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Utilizing ZIMS, maintains the Zoo’s animal and institutional records database, ensuring records are kept up to date, organized, and complete.
Inputs appropriate data into permanent files, including animal births & deaths, observations, notes, and other pertinent information in a timely manner.
Educates staff on using ZIMS.
Coordinates with applicable staff for any needed information/documents as required for specific permits/licenses.
Prepares and disseminates loan documents, permit renewals, and annual reports.
Maintains quality standards for the Zoo’s records management based on accredited zoological practices.
Facilitates electronic record keeping and data management systems to reduce redundancy and streamline communication in Animal Care department.
Tracks and submits invoices and purchase orders.
Prepares and coordinates animal shipments into and out of the Zoo.
Represents the zoo and promotes its interests externally to the surrounding community, to guests, and to agencies such as AZA and USDA as needed.
Represents the zoo’s position and interests in animal conservation and other issues in a well-informed, positive, and responsive manner.
Performs all job assignments with a positive attitude that reflects the Zoo’s mission.
Aids the Animal Care management team with varied administrative tasks and projects. This includes tracking staff training, purchases, and budgets.
Coordinates with the Animal Well-Being Manager to track well-being assessments, training, and enrichment documentation as needed.
Participates in continuing education for professional growth to keep up to date with up trends and standards.
Ability to work over-time as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Maintains strict confidentiality.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
Education and Experience

Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree or experience in zoological science, records management, or related field is required.
Experience with Species360 ZIMS, data management software is preferred.
Knowledge of state and federal animal permitting requirements is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Required technical skills include the knowledge and ability of:

Work Environment

Incumbent performs in a typical office setting with appropriate climate controls. Tasks require a variety of physical activities related to walking, standing, bending, stooping, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, and seeing. Common eye, hand, and finger dexterity are required to perform essential functions. Requires occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs.

Compensation and benefits

Pay Range: $42,000 Yearly Minimum
