Description
Barn Hill Preserve is a zoo in Ethel, LA, just north of Baton Rouge. Barn Hill Preserve first opened in 2012, with the goal of educating students about wildlife and conservation. From there, our goals evolved and in 2015 the gates of our zoological park opened for the first time for guests! We have stuck to our original model in the years since of educational encounter tours. Each year we add new exhibits and animals. We are currently working towards ZAA accreditation and hope to achieve this within the year!
Our mission is as follows:

We are home to over 150 animals across a variety of taxa. We are seeking a dynamic keeper that is comfortable working with all species of animals. Animal Care Specialists duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
~Daily cleaning of exhibits and facilities
~Animal food prep and storage
~Feed animals
~Create inventive enrichment for a variety of species
~Train and maintain behaviors as directed by the Supervisor using positive reinforcement training
~Animal Handling for veterinary exams
~Administer medication and nutritional supplements as directed
~Comfortable assisting medical staff as necessary in treatment of animals
~Maintain records regarding animal care daily
~Maintain an educational environment with all guests
~Monitor animal behavior and appearance and communicate any abnormalities effectively
~Must be willing to work nights, weekends and holidays as required
Education and Pre-requisites
A college degree in any of the biological is preferred. May substitute with the equivalent in experience working with exotic animals where applicable. Knowledge of animal handling and husbandry practices is required. Experience in behavior modification using operant conditioning via positive reinforcement is a bonus. Hoofstock experience is also a plus!

Compensation and benefits
Hourly rate starting at $14/hour commensurate based on experience
