Position Objective:
To assist in effectively and efficiently managing the operation of the Animal Commissary at the Bronx Zoo; to ensure stores and inventories of animal feed, dry goods and supplies are properly managed, maintained and delivered on schedule in all WCS parks.

Principal Responsibilities:

Conduct monthly inventories of Receiving Barn and Animal Commissary stockpiles, and work to align that inventory with the Purchasing Department’s SAP records.
Supervise quality control efforts including the testing of hay, and monitoring the freshness of fish, produce and other perishable food items.
Aid in installing protocols to reduce food wastage/spoilage.
Assist the Animal Commissary Manager in placing feed/supply orders in SAP.
Review feed/supply orders from the animal installations for conversion accuracy and communicate any inaccuracies to Purchasing.
Monitor feed and supplies to ensure adequate levels are stocked at all times.
Develop a storage and in-house delivery system that ensures food supplies are distributed on a rotational basis, dependent upon the item’s receiving date.
Routinely monitor to ensure that installations are receiving their deliveries as ordered/requested.
Assist the Animal Commissary Manager in preparing and managing the department’s annual operating and capital budgets.
Represent the Animal Commissary Department in budget meetings and meetings with the Animal and Purchasing departments.
Communicate and coordinate work as directed with curators, managers and supervisors in other departments to guarantee the efficient distribution of feed and supplies throughout the park.
Ensure compliance with WCS policies, procedures, and departmental participation in mandated programs.
Assist in maintaining any and all records the Department is required to keep.
Maintain the Society’s standards for quality and professionalism and enhanced guests experience throughout the Park, its facilities, building and exhibits

Education and Pre-requisites

Job Qualifications:
This person must be a team leader and team builder, able to direct multiple activities at once, providing supervision, guidance and follow-up as necessary. Must have the ability to prioritize jobs and work assignments. Person must have knowledge of and ability to operate heavy machinery. Must be able to work effectively with other department heads in carrying out the principal functions of the Animal Commissary. Must be fluent in all aspects of SAP. Must be committed to creating and maintaining a positive guest experience throughout the Bronx Zoo.

Compensation and benefits

Salary Range :
$55,000 – $65,000
