Description
Immediate Hire of 2 Lead Keepers.
Promotional potential to Senior Keeper
A Lead Zookeeper is a skilled and experienced professional who is responsible for overseeing a small team of zookeepers in specific sections (2 sections; 3 zookeepers). They ensure the wellbeing, health and safety of the zoos animals and staff in those sections. Lead keepers play a crucial role in conservation efforts, education and public engagement.
Responsibilities:
1) Participating in and supervising the daily care and husbandry of the animals in their assigned collection. This includes feeding, cleaning, enriching and providing any needed medical care necessary.
2) Monitoring the behavior and health of that animal collection and immediately communicating with the Senior Keeper any issues or concerns.
3) Participation in the Enrichment Committee if desired
4) Guiding keepers in proper husbandry standards in the assigned sections
5) Training new staff, setting performance standards and providing guidance as needed
6) Fostering a collaborative and positive work environment amongst team members
7) Maintaining accurate and up to date records of animal health, behavior and breeding programs.
8) Engage the public through educational programs, guided tours and impromptu animal talks to promote wildlife conservation and environmental awareness.
9) Ensure that safety protocols and procedures are followed to prevent accidents and ensure the wellbeing of staff, zoo guests and animals
Education and Pre-requisites
Requirements:
1) Paid experience in a zoological setting working with a wide variety of species with a track record of increasing responsibilities
2) Strong knowledge of animal husbandry and behavior
3) A desire to learn and grow in the animal care field
4) Effective communication and public speaking skills
5) Physical fitness and the ability to perform physically demanding tasks.
6) A dedication to wildlife conservation and education.
Compensation and benefits
Pay scale ranging from $16.00 – $17.50/hour dependent upon experience.
401k with matching and profit share
60 hours PTO
2 three-day weekends off every 6 weeks
