Description
The Oregon Zoo is pleased to announce an available position working as a member of our animal care team that cares for our herd of 3.4 Asian elephants. We are headed for an exciting time in our elephant program with the expansion of our current elephant facilities.
The successful candidate will perform animal care duties and services a variety of animal environments, including cleaning of indoor and outdoor animal holding and exhibit areas. Maintains extensive animal records relating to health, diet and behavior. Observes animal health and maintains interfaces with veterinary staff; develops animal enrichment and training programs. Provides enhanced education, tours and experiences. Animal Keepers also collaborate, lead and assist with breeding, conservation, and research projects; participate in the development and implementation of improved plans, protocols and procedures.
Education and Pre-requisites
Bachelor degree in biology, zoology or a related field and three years professional experience as a Keeper which includes two years experience working with elephant management program or equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform all job duties.
Compensation and benefits
Entry rate: $20.78; 6 months; $22.09; 18 months: $23.47; 30 months: $24.95; 42 months: $26.51/hour, plus excellent benefits
