Description

The Randall Oaks Park and Zoo is looking for Winter Zoo Interns to join our team!!
This is an unpaid Internship designed to help students and recent graduates gain important skills to help them succeed in the animal field. The Zoo is home to around 150 animals respresenting over 40 species. Zoo Interns will be responsible for helping in the daily care and operations in the zoo including but not limited to diet prep, feeding, cleaning, asisting in husbandry care, light maintenance and construction, observations, enrichment, and training. Internships completed while the park is open to the public will also include assisting in educational presentations and interacting with the public.

Education and Pre-requisites

•Must be either a recent graduate of college (within the last two years) or current college student in a degree in the related field.
•Be capable of the physical abilities required to work in the zoo (e.g. lift 50 pounds, frequent bending and stooping, etc.)
•Be capable of standing for extended periods of time and working in an outdoor environment under any weather condition.
•Ability to work without direct supervision.
•Ability to follow both oral and written direction
•Ability to work the schedule agree upon.
•Ability to interact positively with the public, especially to give them information about the animals at the zoo.
•Ability to responsibily use and maintain zoo equipment and tools
•Must be at least 18 years of age
•Candidates must submit and pass a background check

Compensation and benefits

•All applications must be received by November 23, 2015
•Winter Internship starts on December 7, 2015
•Interns must complete 350 hours over the course of 10 to 12 weeks, this makes for 30 to 40 hours a week.
•Interns must be flexible with their schedule, and have the ability to work weekdays, weekends, and holiday.
•You will choose a total of 5 shifts for the week and those will be your set shifts thru your entire internship. The available shifts are 7am to noon, 11am to 3:30p, and 7am to 3:30pm.
•This is an unpaid Internship. Interns will receive 3 uniform shirts, and must provide their own steel toed shoes.
