Description

Out of Africa is a 204-acre wildlife park located in northern Arizona. We are a free-contact facility, striving to bring people and animals together in a way that promotes conservation through education. As our animals are housed in large, naturalistic enclosures, stereotypical behaviors are extremely rare.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, performing in entertaining and educational shows like Tiger Splash, where keepers interact with large carnivores to exhibit species-specific behaviors. Approved candidate will also be expected to drive educational tours, maintain and build animal enclosures, create and distribute enrichment, prepare and distribute diets, and be proficient at all other aspects of animal husbandry. Position is full-time and will include holidays, weekends, and overtime as assigned.

Education and Pre-requisites

This position requires 1 year of carnivore experience or a 4-year degree in a related field. Applicant should be in excellent physical condition. He or she must be a proficient swimmer, must be able to sprint, and must be able to lift 75 pounds above his/her head on a regular basis. Applicants should have a vast knowledge of large carnivores and should be prepared to cross-train with other animal departments. Valid drivers license and drug test required. The ability to weld and operate machinery is a plus.
A passion for education and conservation is a must. An enthusiastic, outgoing personality and background in public speaking is preferred.

Compensation and benefits

Starting wage is $11-$12 per hour (commensurate with experience), with paid vacation and holidays.
