Description

Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary is a non-profit facility dedicated to providing exceptional, life-long care to wolves, wolfdogs, and other wild canids in need. We are currently home to over 50 rescues including wolves, wolfdogs, coyotes, foxes, New Guinea singing dogs, Australian dingoes, and more.

Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Bookkeeper is responsible for performing a variety of bookkeeping and accounting duties including processing payroll bi-weekly, financial record keeping and transactions including A/P, A/R, monthly billing, and General Ledger.

Desired individual will have advanced experience with QuickBooks working in the non-profit setting, an outgoing and friendly personality, demonstrated professionalism and tact in communications with a diversity of individuals, strong organizational and time management skills, acute attention to detail, and ability to work well with Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary’s

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Manage all aspects of day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting processes including but not limited to: A/P, A/R, payroll, journal entries, and bank reconciliation.
• Prepare journal entries for pre-paid expense, deferred revenue, and payroll cash accounts.
• Process and pay all invoices in a timely manner.
• Receive and deposit all organizational revenue.
• Collect sales taxes from customers (where applicable) and remit them to the government.
• Record cash receipts and make bank deposits.
• Maintain the chart of accounts.
• Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements.
• Perform annual 1099 reporting process for vendors.
• Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports, including standard financial reports, budget vs. actual reports, and grant-specific financial reports.
• Manage time tracking process for employees with hours billable to grants, utilizing online time tracking tool, and extract data to make appropriate payroll entries for financial and grant reporting.
• Coordinate with outside CPA and Auditors in preparation of year-end audit.
• Support Executive Director in development and analysis of annual organization budget.
• Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management.
• Maintain accounting procedures and policies, and systems of internal controls to ensure the integrity of all financial systems.
• Perform non-routine tasks requiring strong judgement and initiative.

Education and Pre-requisites

• Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks is a must.
• Nonprofit experience is a must.
• New Mexico certification with 3-5 years of related experience, or a combination of education and experience preferred.
• Additional proficiencies in Excel and database management.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills: ability to manage priorities and workflow.
• Ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals at all organizational levels.
• Understanding of and commitment to Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary’s mission.

Compensation and benefits

This is a remote, part-time position requiring 20-24 hours per week, and pays $20.00 per hour (negotiable).
