Description
The San Francisco Zoological Society (“Society”) is a non-profit institution that manages and raises funds for San Francisco Zoo and Gardens (“Zoo”). The Society’s mission, supra, is summarized as the 3 c’s: to connect our visitors with wildlife so that they care about nature and ultimately conserve it. The Society’s leadership team is comprised of a CEO as well as a professional team of Senior Managers. The Society endeavors to meet or exceed the standards of its industry peers, including those established by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (“AZA”). For over 25 years, the Society has been continuously accredited by the AZA.
Upholds the Society’s mission and core values (Respect, Professionalism, Resiliency, Efficiency and Equality) and other policies/procedures outlined in the Employee Handbook and elsewhere.
SUMMARY: Directs the financial planning and accounting practices and teams of the San Francisco Zoological Society (“SFZS”), the non-profit charged with supporting and managing the San Francisco Zoo (“Zoo”). In addition, the CFO supports the Financial Committee of the SFZS Board as well as maintains relationships with lending institutions by performing the following duties and responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Oversees and directs budgeting, audit, tax, accounting, purchasing, insurance, and investing activities for the organization.
2. Directs the Controller and others in providing and directing procedures and systems necessary to maintain proper records and to afford adequate accounting controls and services.
3. Appraises the organization’s financial position and issues periodic financial and operating reports.
4. Directs and coordinates the establishment of budget programs.
5. Analyzes, consolidates, and directs all procedures together with other statistical and routine reports.
6. Oversees and directs the preparation and issuance of the Zoo’s annual reporting.
7. Directs and analyzes studies of general economic, business, and financial conditions and their impact on the organization’s policies and operations.
8. Interacts with Zoo visitors courteously and offers proper attention at all times.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Manages one subordinate supervisor who supervises employees in the Finance and Accounting Department. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies, applicable laws, and relevant labor laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; ensuring compliance with union rules regarding seniority.

EDUCATION: Master’s degree (M.B.A.) or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE: Four to ten years related experience and/or training.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: Advanced computer experience, especially in spreadsheets and database.

Salary Range: $170,000-$210,000
