Description

The Phoenix Zoo is seeking a full time Construction Technician to perform minor renovations, construct various structures, and perform maintenance on exhibits throughout the Zoo. This may include woodworking, building and repairing of exhibits, cages, crates, gates, decks, partitions, walls, ceiling tile, floor tile, building framework and trim, hanging sheetrock, and roof installation and repair.

A cultural destination and a conservation organization, the Phoenix Zoo is now home to more than 1,400 animals, including 30 species that are endangered or threatened. Our Maintenance team has been instrumental in our exhibit design, creating spaces that work for the animals as well as our guests.

Education and Pre-requisites

Minimum qualifications for this position include five years’ experience in construction industry with emphasis in building construction at a Journeyman Level, general knowledge of all phases of building construction, ability to read blueprints and technical instructions, ability to operate equipment such as table saws, nail guns, drills, radial arm saw, sanders, jointers, screw guns, etc., and ability to work weekends, late evening on occasion and holidays to meet scheduling needs. All Phoenix Zoo employees are required to pass pre-employment background checks including a drug screen, this position also requires a valid driver’s license and annual TB testing.

Compensation and benefits

This full time position has a minimum starting hourly wage of $14.30 – $16.09 DOE, and comes with our full benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with company match and generous PTO.
