POSITION OBJECTIVE: To assist in Wildlife Health Center procedures involving
hospitalized and quarantined animals
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Feed and care of hospitalized and quarantined animals in the Wildlife Health Center facilities
Daily maintenance of incubators and other similar environmentally controlled enclosures.
Preparing regular and prescription diets and formulas as ordered by veterinarians
Assist with restraint (manual and chemical) of animals of all taxa during induction of anesthesia by veterinary staff
Care for ill animals with zoonotic diseases in isolation facilities.
Carry out instructions for medical care of animals.
Set up CDC and USDA mandated quarantine areas; perform CDC and USDA mandated quarantine procedures
Set up medical equipment and supplies prior to veterinary procedures; clean-up and putting away equipment after use
Assist with medical equipment maintenance, including compressed medical gasses
Oversee the proper handling and disposal of Regulated Medical Waste.
Provide logistical support for in-hospital and field procedures.
Assist in budgeting for, requisitioning, and keeping records of inventory supplies
Assist with necropsies and subsequent clean-up as needed
Operate incinerators and assist with CPS operation as needed
Implement and maintain infectious disease control procedures throughout the facility
Assist WHC employees with basic needs within their workspaces (moving furniture, maintaining labs etc.)
Clean, maintain and refuel the WHC vehicles
Perform related tasks and duties as required and/or assigned

Education and Pre-requisites
SKILLS/CHARACTERISTICS/EDUCATION
Bachelors of Arts or Science degree or Associates degree in Veterinary Technology.
Minimum one year experience in a veterinary clinic, research, zoo, or laboratory animal facility; basic
computer literacy necessary; drivers license; knowledge of medical equipment – function and
maintenance desirable
Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral English; ability to function effectively in a complex
healthcare setting and to provide short term care to animals of different health status.

Compensation and benefits
Salary Range :
$43,000 – $46,000
