Description
Position: Human Resources Specialist
Reports To: Director of Human Resources
Position Summary:
The Human Resources Specialist is responsible for performing duties in the following functional areas: recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS), training and development, and policy implementation. This includes ensuring proper understanding, application and communication of company programs, policies and procedures. The HR Specialist will provide support for the Human Resources department which includes the Volunteer Services programs. The HR Specialist will model an outstanding work ethic, excellence in people skills and have a high degree of integrity.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Act as the first point of HR contact for Aquarium employees.
• Responsible for the full cycle recruitment of non-exempt employees and the onboarding of all employees.
• Schedule and facilitate new hire orientation.
• Administer and communicate benefits programs.
• Maintain and audit human resources files and HRIS records.
• Assist in the administration of human resources policies, procedures and programs.
• Leave of Absence Management.
• Assist in monitoring performance evaluation program.
• Respond to requests for employment verifications.
• Maintain HR process documentation.
• Assist in creating an environment that provides a world class experience for guests as well as staff.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Pre-requisites
Education/Experience:
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent years of relevant experience in the HR field.
• Must have at least two (2) years’ experience in Human Resources. Recruiting and/or training experience preferred.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Knowledge of Federal and State employment laws.
• Exceptional customer service, sense of urgency, and detail orientation is required.
• Ability to handle highly sensitive material and maintain confidential information with a high degree of professionalism.
• Self-motivated and takes initiative to improve current processes and procedures.
• Sharp attention to detail and organization skills.
• Outstanding facilitation and presentation skills preferred.
Special Working Conditions:
The position will primarily be in an office environment. Periodic weekend or evening work is expected.
