Description

2024 Keeper Internship

Tanganyika Wildlife Park in Goddard, KS, is looking for hardworking, self-motivated, dedicated animal care staff. Tanganyika prides itself on providing wildly different experiences for its guests and being stewards for all animals in our care.

Tanganyika Wildlife Park has a set of core values that help guide our team to be leaders and help our team improve and continue to meet our goal of becoming a destination park for visitors and a great workplace. If you like a fast-paced, growth mindset culture, come join the change.

As an intern, you’ll spend time working in each area of the park, from the bird routine to the giraffe routine and learning how to educate guests. You’ll gain first-hand experience working hands-on with the animals at the park and be assigned to work encounter stations where you’ll gain customer service skills and become an excellent reader of behavior. In addition, monthly workshops will help grow your knowledge and skills. Join the Tanganyika family, and we’ll invest in your future while you help us build ours.

If you love watching guests feed lettuce to a giraffe, helping kids connect with lorikeets, chopping carrots, talking to guests about animals, and assisting keepers in daily husbandry and care, then you must spend the season with us. Did we mention we also have fantastic team members you’ll spend your days with?

Why should I choose this internship? Tanganyika’s internship prides itself in providing the following during your time as an intern:

During your internship, you will work with all 5 of Tanganyika’s Keeper teams, giving you a wide range of taxa experience.
Professional Development is offered through various workshops, keeper chats and Intern Challenges.
Focus on your personal growth through one-on-one discussions, performance evaluations and shoulder-to-shoulder education so you can excel in your current role and prepare for your future career.
Your time on Animal Encounter stations will help you learn how to strengthen your connection with guests and act as a hub of engagement and information!
How long is the internship? February 19th – November 10th 2024

**We are also hiring for a summer internship from May 25th to August 10th, 2024. We will be making a separate job posting in March for this position

What hours will I be working? Hours will vary, but interns should expect to work 30 paid hours on Encounter Stations and 10 hours volunteering each week. The unpaid hours will allow you more time helping in your favorite animal area, one-on-one time with keepers, training, or aiding a keeper on a larger project.

This is a paid internship: $10.25/hour

Do you offer housing? Limited housing is available on a first-come, first-served basis and is not guaranteed.
