Description
This is a full-time, permanent position as a lead animal caregiver assigned primarily to carry out animal husbandry for black bears, big cats, and primates routinely, with secondary assignments occasionally with small mammals, grazing animals, reptiles, and/or parrots. Our lead keepers work as a team to manage the daily care of nearly 100 surrendered and rescued former pets and performers.
Job duties include daily routine husbandry, delivery of medications, housekeeping, record keeping, and overseeing the work of animal care interns and volunteers. Lead keepers also play a major role in rescue operations, veterinary care procedures, and other activities, including guiding tours, assisting with phone calls and inquiries, and other indirect assignments.
Education and Pre-requisites
Must have previous paid work experience as a primary caregiver to exotic captive animals.
Must have some previous applicable formal education and/or equivalent experience.
Must have reliable transportation and be willing/able to work in all weather conditions.
Must be able to stand/walk for extended periods of time.
Must be able to routinely lift up to 30 pounds.
Must possess excellent communication skills.
Must exhibit leadership qualities and have proven leadership experience.
Previous veterinary assistance/technological experience preferred, but not required.
Compensation and benefits
