Description
Position: Maintenance Manager
Reports To: Director of Animal Husbandry
Position Summary:
The Maintenance Manager is responsible for the monitoring and maintenance of all equipment that is associated with live animal exhibits. This includes managing the preventative maintenance of all systems equipment, including but not limited to pumps, sand filters, UV, ozone generators and other equipment that is critical to animal health. It also includes installation of new equipment, scheduling all routine maintenance on aquatic exhibits using approved LLPA protocols, backwashing filters, conducting water changes and the addition of chemicals to maintain water quality to pre-determined standards. The Maintenance Manager will model an outstanding work ethic, be an example of safety and efficiency, and have accountability for equipment health, water quality and animal safety.
Qualifications:
A BS/BA degree in related field with at least 5 years of experience in a relevant field
Critical Skills/Competencies:
Skilled in general construction, troubleshooting mechanical systems, and the safe use of tools
Knowledge of pumps, filters, fractionators, UV sterilizers, heat exchangers, ozone systems and/or automated control equipment
Knowledge in and ability to adhere to OSHA standards and proper use of personal protective equipment
Ability to work in a team environment and have strong oral and written communication skills
Attention to detail and cleanliness are a must
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage the preventative maintenance program of all systems equipment including:
Scheduling routine maintenance for all equipment
Assigning preventative maintenance work orders to systems technicians
Purchasing and maintaining inventory of all needed supplies and back-up equipment to ensure continued operations in the face of challenges
Utilizing the systems module to identify and log all maintenance done to systems equipment according to approved protocols and procedures
Perform inspections, routine upkeep, cleaning, and repair of all systems equipment
Identify problems with, and implement changes to system design and operation to ensure safety for staff and animal collection
Write protocols and procedures to be used in the operation and maintenance of systems equipment
Work closely with the facilities staff to ensure the safe installation, maintenance and operation of all systems equipment, while maintaining all the needs of the animals in exhibits and holding systems at LLPA
Maintain the highest level of quality as it relates to the aquarium’s public and exhibit image
Understand water chemistry reports and their relationships to life support systems
Maintain accurate and detailed systems logs and records
Assist in the making of sea water for marine systems
Inspect, monitor, repair, maintain and rebuild life support system equipment as required
Manage department Technicians, interns, and volunteers
Assist the department Engineer in planning and implementing new system design and installation
Improve exhibits by modifying existing systems, and installing new equipment
Work closely with the department staff, other departments, and volunteers
Respond to emergencies, as required
Perform other duties, as assigned
