Position Objective:
The Network Engineer is responsible for the daily operations of WCS corporate Networks and is a member of the Network Engineering department who are responsible for the planning and engineering of the organizations’ enterprise-wide corporate network infrastructure. This person ensures that network systems are operated and supported in a manner that meets the needs of WCS. Additionally, this person provides support for information security protection, risk reduction, and compliance of WCS computing systems and users.

Direct:
Assists with network modeling, analysis, and planning for new infrastructure deployments and upgrades.
Provides network designs and innovative technical solutions based on both network modeling/analysis and documented research, in the context of evolving business and technical requirements.
Performs all activities related to the preparation, implementation, maintenance, and support of all network infrastructure.
Identifies areas for improvements to network infrastructure and its operations.
Manages, responds to and mitigates threats to the security and stability of WCS LAN, WAN, and WLAN.
Maintains an understanding of the current vulnerabilities, response, and mitigation strategies used in cyber security operations and assists with proactive detection and notification.
Provides technical expertise to WCS staff to facilitate network access to various programs or applications.
Maintains configurations and documentation of LAN, WAN, and WLAN infrastructure.
Aids in maintaining and troubleshooting Voice over IP applications.
Monitors internal and external bandwidth usage and overall network health.
Participates in weekend on-call rotation.
Other projects as assigned.
General:
Conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines.
Contribute to network and security recommendations for capital and operating budgets.
Integrate with the Helpdesk, Systems, and other IT staff in resolving user access problems as required.
Work with vendors and other third parties in fulfillment of objectives.
Provide project leadership for IT and related initiatives.
Be available on call for emergencies as needed.
Liaise with other business units within WCS.
Perform other IT duties as needed.
Technical Requirements:
Cabling installations both indoors and outdoors
Cisco Switches, Routers, Firewalls, VPN, Sourcefire, ISE
Data center and IDF infrastructure
Fortinet EDR security tools
Genetec and Honeywell security systems
Meraki and point-to-point wireless
NetFlow monitoring and other tools
Network protocols OSPF, EIGRP, others
QSC and other audio components
SolarWinds and their suite of applications
Telecommunications circuits and satellite communications
Video conferencing components
VoIP
Education and Pre-requisites
Qualification Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or a related field
5+ years of experience in technology
Working effectively both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is essential
New York State Driver’s License
Able to commute comfortably to other WCS’ New York locations: Prospect Park Zoo, Queens Zoo, Central Park Zoo, and New York Aquarium
Able to work rotating on-call shifts
Work Conditions
Some physical labor may be required at times to handle computing equipment
Working nights and weekends will be occasionally required to meet deadlines
Some local, domestic, and overseas travel may be required to work at other WCS locations or to meet with vendors, stakeholders, or other off-site personnel
Office is located at the Bronx Zoo facility

Compensation and benefits
Salary Range: $75,000 – $90,000
