Description
The animal care and educator position is responsible for monitoring animal health, maintaining cleanliness of animal areas, feeding, providing enrichment, public education, and other duties as assigned by supervisor. Employees perform onsite and outreach education for schools, scout groups, libraries, birthday parties, and other organizations. Moderate to heavy lifting is required. Employees will work, hands-on, with multiple species of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and arthropods.
Education and Pre-requisites
Mandatory Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in biology or a related science field
• Experience handling/training restricted species
• Experience working with children
• Strong public speaking skills
• Strong work ethic
• Exceptionally good attitude and professionalism
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Effectively work in a team environment
• Commitment to a flexible work schedule
Applicants must have a professional appearance and demeanor. Tattoos or body piercings must be coverable. Applicants must have a valid California Driver’s License, clean driving record, social security number, and proof of personal auto insurance. All applicants are subject to a thorough background check. New hires are required to show a negative TB test, at own expense, within one month of employment.
Compensation and benefits
Starting pay rate is $10.50/hour. Exceptional part-time employees can potentially reach full time status.
