Description

he Oregon Zoo is seeking a Curator to manage the mixed species collection in its Primate and Africa areas. The Primate/Africa Curator is responsible for managing the animal care program, including husbandry, staff supervision and training, animal behavior training and on-going evaluation of animal care and wellbeing provided at the Oregon Zoo. Experience in working with African hoofstock and great apes is desirable, with a focus on training and husbandry. The collection includes chimpanzee, mandrill, orangutan, giraffe, gerenuk, bontebok, gazelle and duiker to name a few. Duties include full supervision of approximately thirteen staff.

This position plans, supervises, organizes, coordinates, trains, assigns and evaluates the work of Senior Animal Keepers, Animal Keepers, interns, and volunteers, primarily in the zoo’s Primate/Africa sections. As part of the Living Collection Division management team, this position will work as a team with fellow curator staff to manage the day-to-day operations of the animal areas. This position may also perform relief duties in the rest of the division. Supervision is received from the Zoo Deputy Director.

Education and Pre-requisites

Bachelor’s degree in the assigned zoology, biology or a related field, and four years progressively responsible experience, including training in animal care; project management or supervisory experience preferred; or any combination of experience and education that provides the necessary skills, knowledge and ability to perform assigned tasks.

Compensation and benefits

Salary: $71,195.00 – $98,985.00/Annually
