Description
The primary responsibility of the Registrar is maintaining the various records systems utilized by LLPA Zoological Operations staff members. This includes medical records, historical and current animal records, daily reports of animal care and training, LSS and water quality records, and generating reports for Aquarium staff and other entities to review, etc. The Registrar communicates with other zoological institutions; USDA, USFWS, UDWR and UDAF to ensure all permits are up to date and in-line with current requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
-Train all current and future Zoological Operations staff to utilize ZIMS according to written protocols and standards.
-Maintain and update permanent animal records using ZIMS, supplemented with Microsoft Access and Excel Programs.
-Maintain enclosure, LSS, and water quality records modules within ZIMS.
-Maintain medical records.
-Maintain drug sensitivity records.
-Generate Reports for government agencies on a scheduled basis, and on demand.
-Generate Reports for Zoological Operations staff members on a scheduled basis, and on demand.
-Code expenses in the husbandry department, track spending, and offer budget support.
-Maintain LLPA Certificate of Registration with UDWR.
-Work with UDAF and UDWR to ensure all animal acquisition methods and importation meet requirements.
-Coordinate with state and federal agencies to maintain up-to-date permitting, and ensure that legal protocol is being followed.
-Communicate with registrars and zoological professionals at other facilities to keep abreast of current records keeping standards and procedures.
-File, scan, and maintain paper and electronic husbandry records.
-Generate reports as needed for other aquarium purposes.
-Develop, maintain, and update Registrar Procedures as needed.
-Complete regular inventory updates of animal collection.
-Help to develop and maintain the LLPA Conservation Action Plan as required by AZA.
-Organize, edit, and plan AZA application materials as needed for accreditation cycles.
-Coordinate animal transactions with other facilities, including booking flights/shipments, acquiring proper documentation, and planning additional shipment details.
-Coordinate and schedule veterinary visits with LLPA contract veterinarians.
-Provide general Husbandry team support, as needed.
-Other duties as assigned.
Education and Pre-requisites
Education:
-The Registrar must have an Associate degree
-Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of relevant experience in the field preferred.
Critical Skills/Competencies:
-Experience with and knowledge of spreadsheets and databases are required.
-A working knowledge of Microsoft Office is required.
-Experience with the ZIMS animal record system is preferred.
-Attention to detail and ability to transcribe data accurately are essential.
-Candidates must possess a high-energy work ethic and a positive attitude.
Special Working Conditions:
The position will primarily be in an office environment. Periodic weekend or evening work is expected.
