Description

The Registrar is responsible for managing the animal record keeping system and managing/coordinating animal transactions and shipments. This will include serving as liaison to the International Species Information System, submitting data to this system, and disseminating data from this system, such as data for studbook reports, questionnaires, surveys, Species Survival Plan updates, etc. This position also entails monitoring the status of legislation for compliance with wildlife laws and transport procedures including procurement of required Federal, State, and Local permits necessary for the maintenance and transport of wildlife, filing annual reports and renewing permits as needed, and preparing statements concerning proposed legislation and governmental actions regarding wild and captive animals. In charge of ensuring Living Collections staff is informed of relevant laws and regulations regarding the institution’s animal collection.

Education and Pre-requisites

Minimum qualifications for this position include a four-year college degree or equivalent experience, extensive experience with computers, word, and data processing software, knowledge of inventory accession and record-keeping practices, knowledge of zoological nomenclature, and knowledge of the laws regulating animal acquisitions, disposition, exhibition, husbandry standards, and transportation within the U.S. and abroad. An ideal candidate will also have experience with animal records software (ARKS, SPARKS, etc.), good verbal and written communications skills, and excellent organizational skills. Since this position may include occasional animal transport, a valid driver’s license and excellent driving record are required.

Compensation and benefits

This position has a starting hourly wage of $15.75 – $17.72 and includes a generous benefits package with 4 weeks of paid vacation/year, medical/dental/vision insurance, 401(k) with company match, and many other perks that come along with being a Phoenix Zoo employee.
