Description

For the second year, the Chicago Zoological Society/Brookfield Zoo has asked Build 4 Impact, Inc. to supply a temporary exhibit for their summer season. The Art & Science of Arachnids is not a typical bug exhibit. It is a PEOPLE exhibit with some really unique and incredible animals. The Art & Science of Arachnids is the largest public exhibition of live arachnids in North America, featuring 100 different species of arachnid. None of the arachnids are medically significant.

We are looking for a dynamic person who is ready for the challenge that this exhibit brings, a great team player, and someone excited and motivated for learning and developing. Build 4 Impact is one of the most respected exhibit providers in the country and the Brookfield Zoo is one of the top Zoos in the country. As a seasonal keeper you will receive valuable hands-on zookeeping experience while providing high-quality care for the welfare of the collection. Your friendly demeanor, good interpersonal skills and outstanding communication skills will contribute to creating an extraordinary guest experience as Seasonal Keepers may work in public areas and may interact with guests.

The Art & Science of Arachnids will be open Memorial Day through Labor Day, therefore, Seasonal Keeper positions require the ability to work rotating shifts including weekends, holidays and evenings. This position also requires that you must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid driver’s license.

Education and Pre-requisites

The requirements for this position include: High school graduate or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree or college coursework in relevant biological field or equivalent combination of training and experience preferred. Minimum six months animal care facility, farm, exotic animal pet store, kennel, or equivalent animal experience preferred. Incumbent mush possess an understanding of practical principles of animal behavior and ability to work with live animals safely. Knowledge of natural history, zoology, or animal husbandry preferred. Must be a minimum of 18 years of age. Good interpersonal and communications skills. Mush be able to interact in a courteous and professional manner. Must be able to learn and integrate information, knowledge, and direction quickly.

Compensation and benefits

This is a part-time, temporary (seasonal) position. Even though you will work in an exhibit at the Chicago Zoological Society/Brookfield Zoo, you will be employed by Build 4 Impact, Inc., not the Chicago Zoological Society/Brookfield Zoo.

The hourly wage for this position is $11/per hour.
