Description

Primary Tasks and Responsibilities
•Lead and conduct Zoo Camps in an outdoor setting
•Prepare for upcoming Zoo Camps
•Deliver outreach programs while utilizing live animals
•Assist and/or present daily live animal programs
•Lead and instruct youth volunteers (ages 13-17 years) during camps and daily tasks
•Provide educational interpretation at exhibits including the African Veldt (40 acre drive through safari adventure)
•Complete daily paperwork
•Perform other duties as assigned

Time Commitment
•This position is seasonal starts in March
•An average of 25 hours per week will be available during training (March- May); during peak camp season (Mid-May – Aug) 40 hours per week will be required
•Chehaw is open seven days per week, week day and weekend work is required, along with evenings and overnights
•Scheduling can be flexible around class schedules

**Note: there is a 30 day probationary period after training is complete**

Education and Pre-requisites

Position Requirements
• Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license
•Must have at least two years of post-secondary education in biology, zoology, psychology, education or another relevant field of science
•Work may be outdoor and in all weather conditions.
•Requires good public speaking ability.
•Ability to work with children, teens, and adults.
•Ability to follow verbal and written directions.
•Ability to work both as a team and independently
•Must be able to work weekends
•Must be willing to handle and care for a variety of different animals including: snakes, spiders, frogs, birds, and small mammals
•Must be able to work in hot and humid outdoor conditions up to 50% of the work day
•Must be able to lift 25 lbs on a regular basis and 50 lbs occasionally
