POSITION SUMMARY:
Entry rate: $24.62; 6 months; $26.16; 18 months: $27.82; 30 months: $29.57; 42 months: $31.41/hour. An applicant pool may be established for future vacancies in this classification from the applications received for this position.
Work week: This is a full-time position with a work week of Tuesday through Saturday (off Sunday and Monday). Work shift is typically 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The Senior Animal Keeper for the Herps and Fish area functions as the on-site lead and coordinator with day-to-day responsibility for the animal care team for the herp and fish collection at the Oregon Zoo. This position is responsible for leading, assigning, overseeing and monitoring the work of Animal Keepers, interns, volunteers and other staff; advancing area and overall zoo animal care, including safety, health, enrichment and training; keeping the area in top operating and professional condition and enhancing overall education and experience.
Senior Animal Keepers lead, collaborate, guide and/or implement breeding, conservation, and research projects; lead and participate in the development and implementation of improved plans, protocols, and procedures; oversee and perform emergency service functions; and may perform designated duties of Animal Keepers or supervisory personnel.

Education and Pre-requisites
Bachelor’s degree in biology, zoology, or related subjects relevant to the care of zoo animals with five years progressively responsible animal keeper related experience with a wide variety of reptiles, amphibians, fish and aquatic invertebrates or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Experience in a lead capacity at a zoo, public aquarium or similar institution. SCUBA certification is required. A valid driver’s license is required.
Compensation and benefits
$24.62 – $31.41 hourly
