Summary of Position Functions:
The Senior Staff Accountant will report to the Assistant Director – Accounting. The position is responsible for financial and administrative roles related to contributions, pledges, account reconciliations, fixed assets, leases, federal and state tax filings and general accounting.
Responsibilities:
Research, prepare and post daily entries related to contributions and pledge/grant payments.
Monthly reconciliation of various bank accounts and General Ledger Balance Sheet accounts including pledge receivable.
Prepare and post various month and year end entries.
Assist as needed with the Fixed Asset module in SAP, including additions, disposals, reconciliations and depreciation.
Maintain quarterly the lease accounting spreadsheets (post implementation and transition leases) by determining the type of lease, reconciling and posting entries.
Assist with work papers for the annual tax audited federal Form 990, along with related filings, charitable and state tax returns.
Assist with the year-end audit as needed including the pledge roll forward.
Act as a liaison for coordinating the Single Audit (A133)
Perform other duties and special projects in the accounting department as directed by the Assistant Director.
Education and Pre-requisites
The successful candidate must have excellent written and oral communication skills and be comfortable participating as both an effective contributor, leader, and listener in group settings. S/He must be well organized, self-motivated, resourceful, effective, and efficient at coordinating multiple resources to get things done, with strong attention to detail; can work on multiple tasks at multiple levels and switch between them; can foresee and plan around obstacles.
Bachelor’s Degree with accounting/finance specialization.
At least four years working experience working in general accounting preferred.
Solid understanding of basic accounting principles
Effective “roll up the sleeves” work ethic; Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse team. Must be solution-oriented, have strong problem solving and analytical skills and take initiative.
Ability to complete work on schedule with a high degree of accuracy, independence and attention to detail.
Have a good working knowledge of Excel, Word and Outlook 365.
Willing and able to be responsive and have efficient communications with colleagues in both New York and overseas.
SAP experience a plus but not required.
Compensation and benefits
Salary Range:$60,000-$75,000 per year depending upon experience.
