Job Title: Summer Safari Camp Educator
Department: Education

Job Purpose: The Summer Safari Camp Educator position advances the mission of Zoo Atlanta by creating experiences that engage, educate and energize program participants to action. Specifically, summer camp educators facilitate learning for campers ages Kindergarten-8th graders (5-14 years old) using interactive, STEAM-based curriculum that showcases Zoo Atlanta’s work to conserve wildlife and wild places; how to protect our environment; and how every person can make a difference in these areas. This is a full-time, seasonal position.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Enthusiastically engage campers by leading them through environmental and conservation education lessons, Zoo tours, hands-on projects, games and activities for age groups ranging from Kindergarten-Rising 8th Graders (5-14 years).
Facilitate extended care games and activities with campers.
Document all camp issues as needed including camper behavior and incidents.
Complete assigned responsibilities including set-up, clean-up and program maintenance. Assist with daily check-in and check-out.
Supervise lunchtime activities.
Build and maintain a good working rapport with co-workers, campers and parents.
Work in a team environment, creating a safe and fun experience for children.
Help maintain clean and safe spaces by sanitizing all materials daily, ensuring all participants (including self) are wearing masks at all times, and encouraging campers to socially distance when and where possible.
Attend and actively participate in weekly staff meetings.
Work with and mentor Volunteens (teenage volunteers)
Perform other duties as required.

Normal Weekly Schedule: Monday-Friday
Orientation: Monday, May 23, 2022 – Friday, May 27, 2022
Virtual: Monday, May 23, 2022, 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
In-person: Tuesday, May 24, 2022 – Friday, May 27, 2022, 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Camp: Tuesday, May 31, 2022 – Friday, July 29, 2022
Full time, non-benefited
Must be available ALL dates
Qualifications:
Minimum of 1 year of experience with interpretation, formal or informal education in a zoological, museum, camp, school, non-profit or related setting
Experience working with children and families
Must be energetic, creative, responsible, and dependable and have an enthusiasm for wildlife and children.
Must pass background and TB check
Must be at least 18 years of age and spent at least one full year out of High School
Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
Excellent oral communication skills required
Professional dress, appearance, and conduct
Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or be willing to get a weekly COVID-19 test
Education:
Must have High School or GED Diploma.
One year of college or professional experience in a related field.
Animal, science, or education academic training in a formal or informal setting preferred.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to repeatedly lift and/or push 50 pounds.
