Description
Out of Africa is a 204-acre wildlife park located in northern Arizona. We are a free-contact facility, striving to bring people and animals together in a way that promotes conservation through education. As our animals are housed in large, naturalistic enclosures, stereotypical behaviors are extremely rare. We are looking for hard working, self-motivated animal care staff to join our team!
Responsibilities of this fulltime position include, but are not limited to driving tours, public speaking, food prep, administration of medication, basic animal husbandry, monitoring of animal health, maintaining cleanliness of animal enclosures, landscaping, enrichment preparation and distribution. Must be ready and willing to interact with large carnivores in a protected contact environment, ability to work in a team is paramount. Some free contact work with select animals may be a possibility for the right candidate.
The right candidate may be able to transition to a full time Large Carnivore Handler when there is a position available in that department.
A passion for husbandry, education, and conservation is required.
Education and Pre-requisites
Applicants should be in good physical condition (stoop, stand, and be able to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis). Preferred applicant will be a proficient public speaker and will be expected to drive large manual transmission vehicles. The ability to weld and operate machinery is a plus.
A degree in biology or a related field is preferred. Experience working with large animals is also a plus. Applicant will be expected to work weekends, holidays and overtime as assigned.
A valid drivers license is required.
Compensation and benefits
Starting hourly rate of $14.50 per hour, plus tips. Evaluation with a possibility of a raise after 90 days.
Paid time off starting at 90 days.
