The San Francisco Zoological Society (“Society”) is a non-profit institution that manages and raises funds for San Francisco Zoo and Gardens (“Zoo”). The Society’s mission, supra, is summarized as the 3 c’s: to connect our visitors with wildlife so that they care about nature and ultimately conserve it. The Society’s leadership team is comprised of a President & Executive Director as well as a professional team of Senior Managers. The Society endeavors to meet or exceed the standards of its industry peers, including those established by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (“AZA”). For over 25 years, the Society has been continuously accredited by the AZA.
SUMMARY: This is a position for creative, enthusiastic, hardworking individuals with a strong interest in working with children. You will supervise, entertain and assist Zoo Campers ages 4-14 while they participate in after camp activities. Successful applicants will be dependable, flexible, have a sense of humor, and a love for nature.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Assumes all responsibility for supervision of the children who are enrolled in the after -care program.
2. Designs and implements simple educational games and activities, using the items and resources available.
3. Prepares and organizes materials needed for the after-care program.
4. Responsible for cleaning and maintaining the after-care area.
5. Ensures the safety of campers, staff and guests at all times.
6. Provides excellent in-person customer service to Zoo Camp families.
7. Ensures the safety of after-care campers.
8. Communicates any problems or parent concerns to the Program Manager and/or Zoo Camp Lead or Program Assistant in a timely fashion.
9. Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. • Ability to work full-time, Monday through Friday, for the entire camp season between the end of May to the end of August.
EDUCATION:
• College level coursework in early childhood, and/or education preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
• Some experience working with children (formal or informal teaching, babysitting, camps, tutoring, coaching, lessons, etc.)
• Ability to present information to groups.
• Successful completion of a background check and fingerprinting.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• The San Francisco Zoo encourages bilingual candidates to apply.
• First Aid and CPR certification preferred.
• Experience with children, particularly those with special needs a plus.
• Ability to work well collaboratively and manage time efficiently.

Salary: $14.00/hour
Note: After-Care Assistants are expected to work all assigned weeks unless specific days off are approved by the Program Manager prior to employment.
Summer Zoo Camp will run Monday through Friday from June 11 through August 17, 2018. Training will take place the week of June 4th.
This is a part-time position; hours are usually 3:30-6:00pm, but flexibility is appreciated.
