Description
Big Bear Alpine Zoo is seeking a dynamic, visionary and experienced leader to join the Big Bear Valley Recreation and Parks Districts team as the Zoo Curator. The Zoo Curator is responsible for the care and management of the animal collection, so must be familiar with best practices in animal welfare, behavior, transport, capture and restraint; wildlife rehabilitation, behavioral enrichment, and exhibit design; federal, state, and regulatory agencies and requirements and record keeping; and conservation, education, interpretation, and marketing efforts. The Zoo Curator is also responsible for managing the facility, including the supervision, direction, and training of approximately 18 staff members and various volunteers, as well as the thriving gift shop and education and conservation programs at the Big Bear Alpine Zoo.
Education and Pre-requisites
Education: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelors degree in Zoology, Biology, Animal Husbandry, Veterinary Medicine, Psychology or related field.

Experience: Seven (7) years progressive experience in zoological work, three (3) of which must have been performing in a supervisory capacity.
Substitution: Four (4) additional years of qualifying management or supervisory experience at a recognized animal care zoological facility may substitute for the required education. Experience must be fully detailed in the work history.
Applicants with an acceptable combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
Compensation and benefits
$62,857.60 – $86,652.80 Annually
