Description
SUMMARY: Reports to the Zoo Curator. Under basic supervision, assists in the care and feeding of various zoo animals. Performs general landscape maintenance and maintains cleanliness of animal enclosures.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Prepares foods for various animal diets; feed animals and refills water; assists veterinarian with care of animals; administers medications; maintains written records regarding animal habitats, feeding schedules, and overall health.
• Feeds and provides nutritional supplements; transports hay and feed.
• Ensuring habitats are clean and safe including but not limited to ponds, moats, and enclosures.
• Participates in the construction of new exhibits, renovations on existing exhibits, and landscaping projects; rakes fence lines, mows grass areas, fixes sprinklers and water leaks, and performs general landscape maintenance tasks.
• Keeping detailed records of animal behavior, health, documents and communicate any irregularities to the supervisor.
• Providing veterinarians with animal histories, information and assisting with the administration of medicine.
• Educating the public about animals, which may include supporting the education coordinator in delivering presentations, demonstrations, and lectures.
• Conducting research and providing suggestions for improved animal care.
• Assist in fundraising initiatives.
• Inspiring and providing training to new staff and volunteers.
• Constantly exhibits a guest service attitude, a smile and an obvious interest in guest comfort and service.
• Supports the relationship between the City of Roswell and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
• Other duties as assigned.
Education and Pre-requisites
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines: • Degree in animal science, zoology, biology, or similar degree OR High school diploma/GED equivalent AND two years of experience with the care and maintenance of animals; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Previous experience working at a zoo, veterinary clinic or exotic animals.
• A passion for animals and the well-being of animals.
• City and Department policies and procedures.
• Methods of care and maintenance of animals; basic animal husbandry.
• Safety rules and regulations for animal handling and performing maintenance tasks.
• Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers and the public.
• Effective verbal and written communication; following instructions.
• Performing grounds maintenance and basic construction projects.
• Operating various hand tools and equipment used in landscape maintenance.
Compensation and benefits
Hourly Full-time Position starting at $14.66/hr. Benefits included.
