Description
Virginia Safari Park, a 180-acre drive through zoo and breeding center, is expanding and searching for additional keepers. We maintain an inventory of 1000+ specimens comprised of large groups of hoofed stock as well as a “Safari Village” comprised of exotic cats, primates, walk-through aviary, reptiles and petting area.
We currently have a fulltime opening available in the Village section. This position requires a person with excellent observation skills, a strong work ethic, and a positive attitude. All keepers will be responsible for the daily care of the animals. Full time keepers are required to maintain their animal records as well as assist in breeding programs. We are looking for people with a strong experience with exotic cats, primates and birds. Experience can be substituted for a degree. Village keepers are also required to perform public presentations while handling a number of program animals.
Education and Pre-requisites
Requirements:
• Exotic Cats, Primates and Bird experience
• A Bachelor’s Degree in science, Animal science/Biology preferred
• A strong work ethic, good physical condition and a willingness to learn
• Must be able to adhere to our strict personal appearance requirements, no visible tattoos permitted
• Must be comfortable speaking to the public while handling animals
• Maintain a non-smoking work environment
• Have the ability to work in all weather conditions
• Experience in using or willing to learn to use trucks, tractors, weed eaters, and other types of machinery
• Minimum of 6 months paid animal care
• Valid Driver’s license
• Must be able to work weekends and holidays
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs
